Camp OutBack
'A Tent-camping Campground' We have 25 sites. Most are in the large Oak trees; 6 are by the Bath House in the pines. There are several others in pines or smaller trees. We do NOT reserve specific sites--just that we will have space for you. The map is not to scale or specific site locations--just approximately. Sites do get moved around. Site numbers are on the fire grills or on picnic tables. Bring flashlights as it can be dark out here! [Please--no firewood from out-of-state or any quarantined areas of VA--to be brought in. Firewood is sold at the Outfitters and in Luray.] When you check in at the Outfitters (8 AM to 5 PM-later on Fri/Sat evenings), we help you sign up for a site. Then you go back to the campground and select a site and let us know which one you selected. It is 'first come, first serve' so if you have a large group, try to send someone early to select the group sites. We do not guarantee that you will have 'side-by-side' sites but when we know we have large groups, we do try to direct selections to help everyone have good sites. If you arrive after the Outfitters is closed, drive to the campground which is behind the Outfitters. You will see the 'wood shed' and the showerhouse. On Friday and Sat. nights, we have a campground attendant to help you find a site and sell firewood. He might be in the campground, so just ask around or wait by the showerhouse. Or pick out a site and then let him know. If no attendant (mid-week), just find a site and let us know at the Outfitters in the morning. There are no isolated sites but there are several that are on 'the fringes'. These go fast so do arrive early for best selection. From Memorial Day weekend to mid-August, the campground usually books up for Friday and Sat. nights so plan ahead. The campground is usually Full on weekends so there is always a 'buzz' of people moving around, sitting by their fire, at night--or neighbor dogs barking, etc. Tents do not provide any noise protection! Do call to see if we have had any cancellations for those last minute camping trips! Mid-week is a great time to camp. You might even have it all to yourselves. Back to Camp Outback Rates Part of a letter that we recently got: "Writing to express my gratitude...the natural beauty of your campground...fantastic that you keep it as nautral as possible...clean and well maintained..." Greg G. from PA Thank you Greg and we hope you return soon. |
